Oslo Opera House

Oslo is a great city but I do recommend to visit it in the summer. I've been there in March and July and I totally prefer it when it's hot, sunny and lively. I would recommend to spend 2 days there (1 if you're on tight schedule) and then explore the stunning Norwegian nature, as this is something that I find particularly beautiful in this country. Here are a few top spots to visit in Oslo:

- Oslo Opera House - wonderful architecture, interesting from the inside but also outside

- Royal Palace

- The Vigeland Park - a sculpture park, very interesting if you're into art but also if you just want to have a walk/picnic

- Oslo Public Library Deichman (right next to the Opera House) - I definitely recommend to go inside and take a lift to the last floor, the view of Oslo is amazing

- Aker Brygge - nice lively area with a small beach, plenty of nice cafes and overall just a great place for a walk

- Kistefos Museum (a little bit outside of Oslo) - wonderful modern art museum. It's a very special place, the building of the museum is a piece of art in itself. There's a rather large outside area filled with interesting sculptures, as well as plenty of things to see inside. I totally recommend a visit if time allows.

Brekkefossen

We decided to go on a road trip from Oslo to Aurland. The route is very scenic and you will probably stop a lot to admire the landscapes around you. There are also a few special stops on the way, like the Lookout in Stegastein or Borgund Stave Church. I recommend going to Flåm especially if you want to take a boat ride in the fjord or grab a bite/buy souvenirs, etc.

You can also explore Brekkefossen. It's a lovely waterfall with a stunning view on the fjord. It's a little bit of a hike but it won't take you longer than half an hour to get there from the parking lot. Just be prepared to climb some steps. The view from the top is wonderful as you get to see the waterfall but also the lovely landscape the with river and the fjord.

Q & A

  • What would you have changed?

I would have extended my trip for 2 more days.
  • Restaurant recommendations?

    - Lille Herbern in Oslo - Oslo Street Food (food court)
  • Tips you would give a friend?

If you can, try to fly to Oslo Gardermoen Airport. The other one is much much further from Oslo and it might take up to 2 hours to get to the city.
  • Packing tips?

Check the weather and take something warmer just in case, even if you travel to Norway in the summer.
  • Booking details?

Winjum Cabin Aurland Stegastein - simple cabin that we booked on Booking.com about 2 months before the trip. I recommend to book ahead as it get booked out fast.
