Highs & Lows

Renting a boat is worth the cost for the experience. Especially if you have some friends to split the cost with.

Do not go during the summer which is the rainy hot season. It will be in the 80's and 90's and very rainy and humid.

Itinerary Overview

I went to Miami with 3 of my friends and visited our other friend who lives there. We stayed in her apartment which is located in Coconut Grove but if I would recommend using AirBnb if you do not know anyone who lives there. Each neighborhood has its own unique characteristics however I would recommend Coconut Grove if you want to stay somewhere cute and quiet. There is a very cute bongaloo air bnb that my parents have stayed at and absolutely loved in Coconut Grove. Miami Beach is also a great option if you want to stay near the beach and enjoy the night life. Friday afternoon I went to a restaurant / night club there called Taco Shack located in South Beach on Alton road. This place has really delicious burritos and tacos as well as a fun club that is hidden behind a door that looks like a porta potty. Miami actually has several Speakeasys that are really fun to go to including Los Altos which is located on Calle Ocho in Little Havana which looks like a candy store but when they ask you want you want say “Tequila” and they will bring you back to the bar. The next day I went to Under the Mango tree which is a natural foods store and restaurant located in South Beach. I ordered an Acai Bowl with almond butter and it was delicious. This breakfast place is a great option if you are more health conscious and it has an actual mango tree growing in the middle of the restaurants. Afterwards I walked around South Point Park which is a beautiful park at the southern tip of south beach and has great views of the ocean. I spent some of the early afternoon at South Beach tanning and listening to music. Miami has some of the best beaches, so I highly recommend spending some time on the ocean. If you are not a fan of crowded areas, Crandon park which is near Key Biscayne is a less crowded beach and has more palm trees for shade. Unfortunately, there is more seaweed in the water compared to South Beach. For lunch, I walked to Taquiza which is an amazing taco restaurant that serves all their food with blue corn. The Totopos are my favorite dish which are made of blue corn and are some of the best tortilla chips I have ever had. After lunch I headed to Wynwood which is the art district of Miami and explored the neighborhood. The Wynwood Walls are a really cool spot to check out because artists from all over the world come to spray paint beautiful designs and paintings all over the walls. Afterward exploring Wyndwood, I went to 1-800 lucky for a bite to eat and some drinks. 1-800 Lucky is located in the heart of Wynwood and is a really fun place to go at night. 1-800 Lucky has several Asian food stands. I recommend getting the poke bowls as well as the Bao buns. El Patio is a really fun bar my friends and I went to afterwards which plays salsa and reggaetón music and is a great option if you are looking to go dancing. The next morning, I went to Tigertail and Mary for brunch which is in Coconut Grove. They have delicious food and a great atmosphere. I recommend ordering the breakfast potatoes and the shakshuka. After lunch I headed to the Design District to check out some of the high-end stores and look at some of the beautiful sculptures and other art installations. Unfortunately my time in Miami came to an end after shopping around in the afternoon and I had to take my flight home.

Q & A

  • What would you have changed?

I would have booked a longer trip. Three days is not enough time!
  • Anything go wrong during the trip?

Make sure to pack a rain jacket or umbrella just in case. Miami weather can be a little unpredictable.
  • Restaurant recommendations?

Bodega Taqueria and Taquiza for tacos. Under the Mango Tree for healthier options and acai bowls. Mandolin for delicious Mediterranean food. 1-800 Lucky for asian food and a fun bar atmosphere. Sometimes they have live music. Cafe Versailles for amazing cuban food located in Little Havana. Tigertail and Mary for brunch in Coconut Grove.
  • Tips you would give a friend?

Things are more spread out than you may think and there is a lot of traffic in Miami so plan accordingly.
  • Packing tips?

Bring loose fitting comfortable clothing. It is going to be hot!
  • Transportation Tips?

Uber rides can begin to add up since everything is so spread out. you may want to rent a car if you are going to be there longer than 3 days.
  • Booking details?

Airbnb works just fine for where to stay. If you want to rent a boat I reccommend messaging Alan on WhatsApp at 786-473-9359. He gives great deals for speed boat rentals.
