Vising Family in Washington D.C.

Since we have family living abroad from where we are, it’s always fun when either of us takes the time to travel and visit each other. This time it was us that came over to the great and entertaining city of Washington DC and everything around it.

Washington DC for me is a city with a strong personality and powerful ambient. It’s filled with huge buildings of potent whites and greys which are not only have astounding architecture but are usually the home to some important organization or event. Washington is a lovely city to walk around, there is something to gaze at on every corner, from the monuments and museums all around the National Mall, topping one corner with the Lincoln museum and the other with the Capitol; to the buildings that house stores and restaurants along the downtown area. Washington is known for being a scholar’s city because of all the museums and government buildings, but there is a lot to see besides that, like walking through the Eastern Market or the Harbour, or have a bite at Thip Khao one of the amazing restaurants you can find in the city.

Since the purpose of the trip was to visit family, of course we took some days off touristing to stay with them and see a bit of the life they lead over there. Visiting Manassas was incredible, I was amazed by the gorgeous houses surrounded by what seemed to me like entire forests of their own where they could walk and explore all the way to little creeks and rivers. Our time here was more relaxed and what some people may call plain or average, but we had a blast every second we were there. From driving around to the National Battlefield Park or shopping at different stores like Michaels or Home Depot for errands, or heading over to Five Guys for a burger, everything was amazing. The views in this town were incredible and I can only imagine how peaceful it must be to live here.

One of my favorite days in the whole trip was taking the time to drive all the way over to the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center, almost 40 minutes away from Washington DC. This is the second and a bit more remote location of the Air and Space Museum, where you can walk through gigantic warehouses and hangars filled with airplanes and different types of spacecrafts. If you’re into aero/astronautics you’ll be amazed by the things you’ll find here; from old war planes to one of the Space Shuttles that is now grounded, everything in perfect conditions, ready to blow your mind away. This was an incredible plan for the day.
