Itinerary Overview

The first stop in our amazing trip to Italy was the city of Palermo a very historical place in the island of Sicily. We got there by plane to next take a train to Palermo's downtown where a friend from couchsurfing was waiting for us to go and visit around the city. We went to eat typical sicilian food and to a local pub to have some drinks. Next day we rented an apartment using Airbnb and the couple who hosted us was very nice, we get along with them so we went to a restaurant to have a meal and share with some of their friends. This was a very immersive experience because I was just starting to learn italian but still could keep up with the conversations and practice a lot. By this new friends recommendation we went to a beach nearby the next day, a place called Mondello, a beach town with amazing landscapes and lots of people relaxing on the beach. nice location to take a bath in the mediterranean sea.

Next stop in our journey was the eternal city: Rome. We stayed with another friend from couchsurfing for 5 nights. We spend our time there walking until our feet hurt. All those stone streets to walk by and get without notiving to a beautiful square, fountain, stores, museums, churches (lots of them), sculptures, ruins of ancient Rome and people from all around the world. Some of the most representative places visited were piazza di Spagna, the coliseum, Altar of the fatherland, fontana di trevi, we also went to the Vatican museums, among many other places. Last night of our trip we met with a friend to go grab some drinks and have dinner near the coliseum, every night had a very lovely weather and days were long enough to go around and get infected by this city movement, art and history.

after Rome we headed Bologna making a little stop to visit Florence for an afternoon.

Bologna is a very old city, one of the biggest medieval cities still standing. Besides it's a young city, lots of university students go to Bologna so you can find fresh places, pubs, restaurants and stores. Besides there was a summer festival happening in the city in which different artistic events where taking place. We watched a movie in the main square, there were concerts, poetry readings, music and beer all around. Quite an amazing stay.
