Highs & Lows

The weather is nice, the people are friendly and the prices are low

The food is sometimes disappointing, and the roads too

Itinerary Overview

We arrived in Cancun on October 16th, after eating.
We decided to stay one night in order to rest, and then go to the city of Tulum because Cancun is not the best destination to stay.

We then went to Merida (my favorite destination)we visited the cenotes, and the pyramids of Uxmal and we stayed there for two weeks.

Then we went to Oaxaca, we found a work away, we visited San Cristobal and Puerto Escondido, and we stayed there for three weeks in the work away.

We went to Mexico City for three days to explore the pyramids of Teotihuacan (the most impressive ones I've seen in my life)

After that, we flew back to Merida to see a person we had met, and to get closer to Cancun where our trip will end.

before going to Cancun, we visited the city of Valladolid, which is very nice, and the city of playa del carmen, which is very festive, Then, we went to Cancun and my friend went to Reunion Island and I went to Latin America (Colombia)

This is where our trip with friends ends!

We arrived at Jorge's house on November 6th.
He welcomed us very well, he is a very good person, he knows many people in the big village of Miahuatlan!
We knew that we were going to work for Mezcal producers, but we didn't know what the work was really like and what activities we were going to do around.

There was a dog and a cat, negroni and the cat, unfortunately, I do not remember the name.

The same evening, we met around a glass of Mezcal to talk about the program, we were in the company of a couple of Italian very nice, and a German, very nice too.
The conviviality was already there.
Jorge explained to us that we would be working in the agave fields, weeding, planting different kinds of agave (there are a good dozen of them, it's very interesting), and visiting the properties where the alembics are located in order to produce the mezcal, taking free salsa and cumbia classes and also Spanish classes, once a week.
He also told us that we were going to approach the schools and introduce ourselves and his project.

We had each a task to perform in the house to keep everything clean, we knew what we had to do the following week by picking papers found in a jar, all with a picture and a number describing the task we will be given (pass the ballet, mop, wash the bathroom, cook ...)

In the past, the work was quite intense at the beginning, we went to work in the fields for 6 hours, and we got up at 5 hours because the fields were not near.
We did not work in the afternoon, it was a great adventure.
We also went to work on a family farm to pot shrubs or plants, they fed us at noon, and these people were very grateful.
The Mezcal was on the menu after the meal, it was very friendly, funny, and interesting to taste this alcohol and look for similar flavors.
The wedding was quite difficult in the fields, but the atmosphere was good.

Regarding the Spanish and dance classes, we went to two different bars, the teachers were two ladies, always very smiling and determined to teach you things with good humor.
Regarding the schools, we were welcomed by a big group of kids, happy to meet us, and to meet Negroni too!
Afterward, we went to meet the director to discuss with him the project of Jorge and the idea of introducing ourselves to the children to talk about the project, and our trip in particular.
From Miahuatlan, you can reach a river which is a 40-minute walk from Jorge's house.
We were also able to discover San Jose del Pacifico and reach Puerto Escondido for a weekend.
the other two weeks, we worked less at the first one, it was more relaxed.
the weekend in Miahuatlan, evenings happen, I was even able to do a concert in a bar thanks to Jorge's contacts!
this experience was enriching, so I advise you to go for a walk to discover this life!

I found the restaurant on Google maps.
We arrived in front of the restaurant with my friend, someone from the staff asked us to wait 20 minutes so that a place could be found because it was so crowded!
We went in, a lady on the left was preparing the legs for the tacos, the restaurant was big.
Beautiful paintings were done on the blackberries, it gives a nice charm to the place.
We sat down with the menu and without much delay, a waiter came to take our order!
Their hurchata was excellent, and the menu that I took which is on the picture (beefteak on a stone tray) was succulent too!
The choices on the menu are varied and multiple, and the prices are quite low value for money.
The desserts are good and well done too! The neapolitan was excellent!
I highly recommend this restaurant if you pass by Merida during your trip.
