Itinerary Overview

Austria is a paradise for hikers with its stunning alpine landscapes and well-maintained trails. A great hiking itinerary in Austria could start in the city of Innsbruck, where you can explore the historic old town and take the cable car up to the Nordkette mountain range for panoramic views. From there, head to the Zillertal Alps and hike along the Berliner Höhenweg, a 7-day trek that takes you through alpine pastures, glaciers, and mountain huts with breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks. Another great option is the Kitzbüheler Alpen, where you can hike the Kitzbüheler Horn, a popular peak with stunning views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. After a long day of hiking, relax in one of Austria's famous thermal spas like the Aqua Dome in Längenfeld or the Therme Wien in Vienna. End your trip in Salzburg, the birthplace of Mozart, and hike up to the Hohensalzburg Fortress for panoramic views of the city and surrounding mountains. Don't forget to try Austria's famous schnitzel and apple strudel along the way!

Nestled in the Austrian Alps, Stubaital is a picturesque valley that offers a plethora of outdoor activities for nature enthusiasts. From skiing and snowboarding in the winter, to hiking and mountaineering in the summer, there is something for everyone in this valley.

Recently, we had the opportunity to experience the beauty of Stubaital firsthand by embarking on a three-night hüttentocht (hut trek) from the Mutterbergalm to the Stubaitall Glacier. The journey began at the valley station of the Stubaitall Glacier, where we boarded a bus to the starting point of our trek.

As we hiked, we were met with stunning views of the valley behind us and the majestic peaks of the Alps looming in the distance. Along the way, we encountered several waterfalls, and the sound of the mountain stream provided a soothing background to our journey.

One of the most challenging aspects of the trek was having to carry all of our belongings for the next three nights with us. This made it crucial to pack only the essentials, as carrying around unnecessary weight can make the hike much more difficult.

As we climbed higher, the sense of accomplishment grew with each step. The views from the top were truly breathtaking, and the feeling of being surrounded by the natural beauty of the Alps was truly unforgettable.

The morning came and we woke up early, ready to pack our bags and embark on the next part of our journey. Our destination for the day was the Sulzenauer hütte, a picturesque mountain cabin nestled in the foothills of the Sulzenauer glacier.

The hike was definitely more challenging than the day before, with narrow paths and rough terrain to navigate. We followed the markings over stone plains and used steel cables for extra grip as we made our way up the mountain. The path was steep and rugged, but it added to the sense of adventure.

As we passed the Peiljoch, we were rewarded with breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. However, if you're planning on doing this hike, be prepared for some serious scrambling. The Peiljoch is a real ridge, and the hiking trails can be quite steep. If you're afraid of heights, this might not be the hike for you.

Finally, we arrived at the hütte, surrounded by beautiful mountain lakes and lush meadows. We were greeted by the friendly staff and settled in for the night. There were more climbing possibilities, but after a long day of hiking and scrambling, we were content to relax and take in the stunning views.

The tour was about 4 km, with an elevation gain of 400 m and a descent of 500 m. It's said to take around 4 hours, but we took longer as we stopped to take in the views and enjoy the scenery. Overall, it was a challenging but rewarding hike, and one that we would highly recommend to any outdoor enthusiast.

My friend and I were excited to take on the challenging hike to the Maierspitze. At 6 kilometers, with a 550 meter ascent and 500 meter descent, we knew it was going to be a tough one. But, we were well-rested and ready for the challenge.

The hike began above the tree line, through rocky terrain. The constant ascent to the Maierspitze was made even more difficult by the loose stones caused by glaciers. The steep sections were particularly challenging, but the feeling of reaching the highest point made it all worth it.

After passing the Maierspitze, we hiked steeply down to the Langental where we rewarded ourselves with a cool drink and some cake. The descent was just as challenging as the ascent, but the beautiful views of the surrounding mountains made it worth it.

Hiking the Maierspitze was definitely one of the most challenging hikes we've done, but also one of the most rewarding. It was a test of our physical and mental strength, and we felt a sense of accomplishment once we reached the top. If you're up for a challenge and want to push yourself physically and mentally, the Maierspitze is definitely worth the hike.

So, if you're an enthusiastic hiker looking for a new challenge, put the Maierspitze on your list. And don't forget to reward yourself with a cold drink and some cake at the end of the hike. Trust us, you'll have earned it!

After several days of challenging hikes, we were ready for the final descent back to Stubaital. Descending felt light and chill after the other days, and we were excited to see the end of the journey.

As we descended, we passed through the picturesque Langental valley. The densely wooded slopes and green meadows were a welcome change from the rocky terrain we had been hiking through. Gradually, the view of Stubaital came back into view and we knew we were nearing the end.

One of the highlights of the hike was being among other hikers in the mountains. The hüttes, or mountain huts, are only accessible by foot, adding to the sense of adventure. The views and the feeling of adrenaline after reaching the highest point were truly amazing.

Hiking through the Stubaital mountains was an unforgettable experience. The combination of challenging hikes and beautiful views made for an unforgettable adventure. We felt a sense of accomplishment once we reached the top. So, if you're a hiker looking for a new challenge, put the Stubaital on your list.
