You need more time to discover this eternal city
Itinerary Overview
I stayed one week in Rome, as a volunteer for the earth day: a week in which people try to increase awareness about environmental topics and the UN SDGs; and I had the opportunity to discover a bit this amazing city during the free nights. unfortunately by having multiple tasks and responsibility, I had a chance of visiting Rome only 3 nights, but if I had the opportunity, I would have spent more time in there. as probably you already know from videos, stories of movies, the city is unique, and you can feel that essence of uniqueness and millennial history by walking around, you'll feel part of the history, from the roman empire until roman holiday. But Rome is much more than good food and amazing monuments, it's on you to discover it!
Just some consideration: unfortunately the roads are not maintained, there are rubbish on the streets and the underground doesn't work properly.
Rome La città eterna, what else?
I really enjoyed this city, which I discovered only during the night. the weather was nice, enjoyable after a day of sun. I was with a group of volunteers and it has been nice sharing this amazing place with other tourists/friends, together we have discovered some of the infinite monuments that this city kept during the centuries and shared amazing meals together! we moved around with public transportation, also in the right. when the public transport is not in function, we used Uber, but mostly of the time we walked around, because the most beautiful thing is feeling part of this city. the city is quite safe and we didn't have problem. in the night there are some place full of people, it's up to you to be careful and to watch your things, but in general nothing happens.
What I can suggest you? pasta aglio olio e peperoncino; carbonara e cacio e pepe. buon appetito!
Vatican City religious and culture importance
While walking around in Rome by night, it's easy to reach the Vatican city, since is in the middle of Rome. I remember walking around and then see the st. Peter basilic and the square from outside. amazing. however, since it is a particular place, during the night is not possible to visit it and actually there is nothing to do in there, just take some picture from the outside. the place is full of police and barred, and if you walk close to that, they could arrive close to you and ask the reason of your presence in there. it's understandable, it is for safety. absolutely recommended to visit during the day, especially on Sunday morning on which you can see the Pope and the sense of this place. during the night is just ok for a walk, but it's not worthy it. In fact we stayed there just 10 minutes, than we went back in Rome, more specifically to the Colosseum.
