Highs & Lows

The old city of Nice is very picturesque!

It’s really hot during the day

Itinerary Overview

After hearing a lot about this city and having a few days of rest we decided with my friends to travel and let ourselves be impressed by this place.

from Belgium, we traveled to montpellier, a place full of students and visitors from all over the world.

What impacted me the most on my arrival was the amount of green that could be seen from many places, cafes full of a good vibe and plans for all tastes, a city really recommended both to spend a long time, but also for a fascinating weekend.

We arrived on Friday in Montpellier and spent the first weekend there. On Sunday we did a day trip to the fishing town Sète. On Monday we left for Nice and stayed there until Friday. so many surprises to discover!

Sète

We got up very early to take advantage of the wonders of the place, Sete is full of wonderful wineries to enjoy, we had been told wonders of its cuisine, so we decided to start our tour of the port, since our arrival, all the spaces looked so magical! one more beautiful than the previous, streets full of interesting places.

We entered a restaurant where we enjoyed delicious seafood dishes, the specialty of the place.

after this we walked a little more, we arrived at the market and continued enjoying its gastronomy.

Very picturesque city and there weren’t too many tourists when we were there. Lots of cute and cozy bars and restaurants. Also, Sète was worth visiting! You also have the possibility there to swim in the sea and relax on the beach.

the best way to end the afternoon is with a good beer and enjoying a beautiful sunset!

the possibilities to do at this destination were many, the time we had not so much. however, we were determined to make this vacation the best experience, we started our day with a tour of the Rivera, where we could enjoy the beauty of the area, the prices are a little high as it is a very touristy place.

In the afternoon we decided to do a bike ride, a super recommended plan.

We stopped at different places to enjoy the view and taste the local delicacies.

The combination of the sea and the city was exactly what we were looking for. Nice is one of the most beautiful cities I’ve visited so far!

ah and if you are interested and you like to snorkel this can be a good destination, we decided to do some paddle boarding and it was a great idea!

in conclusion, this destination is a dream come true!

Q & A

  • What would you have changed?

If we were there by car, we could’ve went to the nature for a hike. By train this was not really possible. But still, in terms of time the train was the better option (only 6 hours instead of 11h+ by car) .
  • Anything go wrong during the trip?

We had some delays when taking the train from Montpellier to Nice. We just took a later train from Marseille to Nice, but we weren’t sure if we were allowed to take that one with our ticket. We haven’t been checked, so we might have been lucky.
  • Restaurant recommendations?

There are some nice places in Rue Bonaparte
  • Tips you would give a friend?

It was a quite expensive trip because of the trains, the fact that we stayed at two Airbnbs (you pay twice for service and cleaning) and the restaurants and bars. Just be prepared to spend money :)
  • Transportation Tips?

We came by train (Thalys from Brussels to Montpellier) and it was so nice to be in the South of France in only 6 hours! It was expensive (€150 for a single ride), but still cheaper than the flights. In France we took the train from Montpellier to Sète and from Montpellier to Nice.
  • Booking details?

Airbnb, Thalys and SNCF for the trains.

Lodging

  • Airbnb in Place Saint-Come. Very nice place to stay, would really recommend. Only one comment: the mezzanine gets very hot, even though there is airconditioning. The other rooms do get cold because of the airconditioning.

  • Airbnb close to Boulevard de la Madeleine (Marie is the host’s name and the house is called “house with garden 15min walking from the sea”). Great house and host, would totally recommend!
