Highs & Lows

Great trip, beautiful cities very calm and easy to move around

The weather was very cold and we couldn't go for a swim

Itinerary Overview

I was living abroad, and it was already December, so my mum decided to come visit me for the holidays. We planned a trip to Paris, Saint-Jean-de-Luz and San Sebastian. In Paris we booked an Ibis hotel which was a good price and in a good location. When we arrived, we went to Montmartre and walked there since the ibis was so close. In Montmartre we walked around and sat down to eat oysters. Then we went to the Sacré-Cœur Basilica which is a must and saw a street performer sing. Then we took the metro and had a late lunch in Pizza Pino down in Champs-Élysées Avenue and went to the stores to do some shopping. The next day had breakfast at the hotel and headed to the Eiffel tower, we took some pictures and bought baguettes to eat the grass in front of the tower. Then we visited the Musée d'Orsay which was beautiful and walked around. In the afternoon we went to The Centre Pompidou. We finished the museum at night, so we went to eat dinner to Bistro Régent Paris 9ème. If you are ever in Paris I higly recommend eating here the food is out of this world. Then the next day we took a train to Saint-Jean-de-Luz.

We arrived at Saint-Jean-de-Luz and were picked up by the hosts in the train station to go to our Airbnb. The place was beautiful and was right next door to our hosts. When we arrived, we met up with some family friends who live there and had lunch. Then we made some sandwiches and packed to go the beach. Although we could go in the ocean because of the cold weather we sat down in the sand and walked along the beach. We continued walking and visited the Fuerte the Socoa which is a fortress from the 17 century. We spent the whole day at the beach and then we went to have dinner at their house. The next day we went to visit the Église Saint-Jean-Baptiste and then went to el Puerto de San Juan de Luz which was beautiful and filled with colorful boats. We had dinner in the plaza and some ice-cream and spend the afternoon in Rue Léon Gambetta. This avenue is car free and filled with all sorts of little shops. Then we went back to the Airbnb and prepared to go the next day to San Sebastian.

The next day our friends picked us up in their car to go to San Sebastian, it is about a 30 min drive they are super close. They are divided by the in the border between France and Spain. In San Sebastian we walked around and visited many shops, it is a small town, but it is fun to walk around. Then we went to a coffee shop and bought some sandwiches and headed to the beach La Concha. We walked around and sat down to eat and watch the sunset. The sunset was out of this world it was one of the most beautiful sceneries I had ever seen. Then we went to the main plaza and had churros with chocolate sauce in one of the bakery’s, the churros are very famous in San Sebastian. Then we walked back to the car and in the way we visited The Cathedral of the Good Shepherd which was very pretty. Then we headed back to Saint-Jean-de-Luz.
