Highs & Lows

The beautiful campsite and the people we met there

It was super hot, so we’ve been sweating very hard

Itinerary Overview

This was a plan we had for years with my friends and family.

We had looked at many lodging options until we found a camping place where we could have good options at a good price, so we made the decision and went to enjoy a few good days in nature.

We started our trip by taking the train to the beautiful Central Station of Antwerp. We got of the train at Munkzwalm where our trip started. We went from Zwalm to Sint-Denijs-Boekel and spent two nights at the campsite in Sint-Maria-Horebeke. There is a meadow where you are allowed to set up your tent. The next day we continued our trip through Maarkedal, Maarke-Kerkem, Muziekbos and eventually arrived in Ronse. From there we took the train to Gent and spent our last night in my friend’s apartment.

From the moment you open your eyes, you can delight yourself with the beauty around you, paths in the middle of the mountain to find calm, a magical place with many possibilities to spend hours just enjoying nature.

We started our trip by taking the train to the beautiful Central Station of Antwerp. We got off the train at Munkzwalm where our trip started. We went from Zwalm to Sint-Denijs-Boekel and spent two nights  at the campsite in Sint-Maria-Horebeke. There is a meadow where you are allowed to set up your tent. At the camping site you have the option to use the facilities, a place to cook and a large space to put your tent.

The next day we continued our trip through Maarkedal, Maarke-Kerkem, and Muziekbos and eventually arrived in Ronse. From there we took the train to Gent and spent our last night in my friend’s apartment.

The next day we continued our trip through Maarkedal, Maarke-Kerkem, and Muziekbos and eventually arrived in Ronse. The place that I enjoyed the most was the arrival at Ronse, from the train station you start to enjoy the beauty of this place, the textile museum and the walks in the mountains make this place something very special.

The hikes are not very long but they are up and down, with a wonderful view, it is important to wear comfortable walking shoes. From there we took the train to Gent and spent our last night in my friend’s apartment. I would recommend this hike if you enjoy meadow landscapes and also like to do some altimeters. I really enjoyed it!

a sunny day, good company, comfortable clothes, and simply let yourself be amazed by this place. highly recommended!

Q & A

  • What would you have changed?

I would have loved a longer hike, but in the area there are not that much free camping sites. The one we used was amazing though.
  • Anything go wrong during the trip?

    no
  • Restaurant recommendations?

In Ronse, at the end of the hike, you can have a drink or eat something. Before that there are not that many possibilities, so bring your own food.
  • Tips you would give a friend?

Don’t hesitate to ask the local people if you can fill your water bottle. There usually very friendly and might give you more than water :)
  • Packing tips?

Make sure you have all the essential camping gear with you
  • Transportation Tips?

You can get there easily by train!
  • Booking details?

No booking needed, you can just decide last-minute to do this trip when the weather is good, just like we did!
