Highs & Lows

Mayan city is a place you have to visit once in life

National transportation is not that good

Itinerary Overview

I decided to take some long vacations to start traveling the most beautiful places in my country "Guatemala" and 3 of them were the winners for this trip so I'm gonna talk about Panajachel which is a little town located in Solola, it has one of the biggest and cleanest lakes in the country and it's a perfect place to relax in a boat with friends and music.

I also visited Peten, which is the department where the Mayan city is located, and I felt that I was able to connect my soul with nature since it is a very peaceful place. big pyramids and a lot of history was waiting for me to be discovered.

I finished my trip in Antigua Guatemala because that's the most touristic city in Guatemala and also because it is very close to my parents' house so it was easier for me to take a rest.

I arrived at Santa Elena Peten, which is one of Guatemala's biggest departments and I made my reservation at the money home Hostel located at Flores Island because it is a magical place that everybody should visit once in life.

weather at the Island is really nice since it is surrounded by water, combined with the hot weather it makes you feel a fresh experience, and its location is very convenient because Tikal which is the Mayan city is located 60 km away from the island.

As soon as I arrived in Tikal I started to explore all the ruins and landscapes the park can offer you because you can see wild animals, and climb some of the pyramids with special stairs that the government installed to protect the original ones.

Visiting this lake is a unique experience because it is surrounded by 2 volcanoes and different villages that are very important to visit because they are an important part of our culture, and is not that hard to get there because there are a lot of boats waiting for tourists in the border of the lake and the prices are from $5 to $15 depending on where you're going.

On this trip, we were traveling with a friend from Argentina because was visiting me at my house, we tried to take advantage of all you can do at Panajachel and one of our first activities was visiting PanaRock, which is the most emblematic place to play music if you have a band or you are a musician. People from all around the world come every year to have a good time there, there are very good cocktails and it's a nice opportunity

The cross in Antigua Guatemala

Traveling to Antigua Guatemala is Basically traveling back in time because although you can see expensive cars and huge houses, the city preserves its cobbled streets and the ruins in every corner.

We stayed at Split Hostel which is located near the city center so its a good option to visit the park and the main church.

It's also very recommendable to stay for more than one day so you can go to the cross which is located on a hill that you can get to by stairs or by car.

If you're looking for good food, My best recommendation is to look for a typical food place because you will also find fast-food restaurants but it doesn't make any sense to eat the same thing you can get in your city.

around the city, you will find several restaurants where the owners are the local people so you can taste different dishes for little money.
