Highs & Lows

Sunset cruise in the Andaman Sea is not to be missed!

As it is a tropical country, the afternoons can get very humid on some days

Itinerary Overview

After spending three days in the busy and buzzing Kuala Lumpur, I choose Langkawi as my home for the next three days to spend time in nature near the ocean. The small island has so much to offer that I had to miss a couple of activities in the end due to time constraints.

  • 2 Nights: Kuala Lumpur
    Sight-seeing
  • 3 Nights: Kuah
    Nature, beach

I started my trip to Malaysia by spending three days in Kuala Lumpur. I am not very fond of busy metropolitan cities but the sheer diversity of Kuala Lumpur made me enjoy my time in the city!

During my three days stay, I visited all the main landmarks in Kuala Lumpur:

  • Suria KLCC & Petronas towers - I ended up visiting the Suria KLCC mall only because it was continuously raining and I had no other place to visit but the mall. The Petronas Twin Towers are connected with the mall and you can enjoy a nice meal at an outdoor restaurant with the Petronas Towers view.
  • Batu Caves - an interesting climb to the mysterious caves makes this place worth a visit!
  • Sunway Lagoon Waterpark - a perfect way to spend an entire afternoon of fun and adventure
  • Genting Highlands - get away from the hustle-bustle of the city and enjoy a scenic cable car ride in the mountains.
  • KL Tower and Helipad Lounge - to get a panoramic view of Kuala Lumpur, these two places are a must-visit!
  • Chinatown - spend your last evening souvenir shopping in Chinatown.

Island hopping

Day 1:

  • I landed at a rainy Langkawi airport in the afternoon and with a short time on hand before the sunset, I directly took a cab to the Sky Bridge Langkawi after leaving my luggage at the hotel.
  • One can easily spend a full day at the Langkawi Sky Bridge due to plenty of activities to do there.
  • I took the cable car to the first viewpoint on the mountain. The view wasn't very great as it was raining. From the first viewpoint, I took the cable car to go further up and I reached the second viewpoint. The view got slightly better there.
  • I stopped at a small coffee shop for coffee and a light snack before coming down.
  • Next up in the park, I went to the skydome and enjoyed a 20mins show VR show there.
  • The final activity I did there before leaving was to visit the illusion museum which is one of the largest illusion museums in Asia.

Day 2:

  • The plan for the second day was pretty straight-forward. I pre-booked an island hopping tour from morning till afternoon!
  • I got a hotel pick up from where they took me to the main  jetty leaving for the islands. The first island was some twenty minutes speed boat ride away from the jetty. The views en route to the island were very beautiful!
  • We were given two hours to spend on the island where I spent my time swimming and sunbathing.
  • The second island I visited was called Eagles Island. It was indeed an interesting place surrounded by eagles. My boat captain carried food for the eagles and he was throwing it up in the air for the eagles to come closer to the boat and catch the food. I was awe-struck seeing the majestic bird from such a close distance!
  • The third and final island I visited had plenty of different water activities to try like kayaking, wakeboarding, and snorkeling at an additional cost. As I didn't have any extra dry clothes left, I opted for kayaking only.
  • The island had its own secret lagoon where I spent an hour kayaking and admiring the nature around me.
  • Before leaving the island, I enjoyed a fresh juice with light snacks at a cafeteria on the island.
  • After a long and tiring afternoon of island hopping, I spent the evening just strolling around my hotel.

Day 3:

  • On my final day at the island, I visited a very famous landmark of Langkawi, the Eagle square. It is a giant eagle sculpture built near the sea, which is a very famous landmark in Langkawi.
  • To spent the rest of the afternoon, I took a tour of the Langkawi Mangroove forest. We walked through the mangrove forest and learned about the importance and contribution of the flora in maintaining the eco-system of the island.
  • For my final meal on the island, I booked myself a seat at the Langkawi sunset cruise. It was indeed the highlight of the trip to see the sun dipping in the Andaman sea while enjoying lunch on a cruise.
  • We kept sailing in the sea for two hours before being dropped off at the jetty.

Q & A

  • Anything go wrong during the trip?

The monkeys in Langkawi are not cute! My food was stolen by the notorious monkeys!
