Highs & Lows

A night well spent on the beaches of Calambrone (ITALY)

Paid beaches in Italy

Itinerary Overview

In my time in Europe the only thing which I had planned was to explore Amalfi coast in Italy and it all started with a bang on the train to Genoa

Genoa  - In quest of Amalfi I boarded a train from Milan to Genoa a small port city on the north west Italian coast for 9 Euros  however while gazing the ever most beautiful Italian country side I encountered a fellow German traveler Samira who apparently hitchhiked till Milan and was on the same quest as I was. We clicked instantly and decided to travel together

Sestri Levante - Sestri Levante is a town and comune in Liguria, Italy. Lying on the Mediterranean Sea, it is approximately 56 km south of Genoa and is set on a promontory and it was pure beauty one has to see themselves to realize how pristine it is however to get there is as easy as walking on the cake you can find trains, buses and can even hitchhike.

Calambrone  - Calambrone is a village in Tuscany, central Italy, administratively a frazione of the comune of Pisa, province of Pisa. Calambrone is about 25 km from the city of Pisa. You can easily find local buses to Calambrone from Pisa.

Naples - The journey to naples from colambrone was interesting as me and Samira decided to hitchhike till Naples which is also the gateway to Amalfi or the point from where Amalfi starts.

The whole idea to reach to this city was primarily to be in sync with the Italian west coast to take it further down south till Amalfi however Genoa was only a night affair to rejuvenate for exiting days to come although we reached at 7PM and being solo male traveler never was so organised in finding a place but Samira she took charge found the hostel and even she could manage a place with best pesto pasta in town(Pastificio Artigianale di Canneto). we had relatively quite yet pleasant evening.

We reached Sestri Levante around morning with sun shining bright on us, we couchsurfed at Ricardo and Serena's little heaven just out side the village whom I'av hosted in INDIA during their stay here and they been kind enough to host me and Samira for 4 days. All of us had good times together. They accompanied us for small visit to the center and even offered there car to see around. I was taken for surprise by sheer beauty of this place. you can go for a nice relaxing hike of around 8 KM overlooking the great blue waters of  Mediterranean from the beaches of  Punta Manara. The view of sunset  on top in itself is quite a romantic one

You can enjoy the warm waters at Baia del Silenzio  you have pay 10 euros to be on the beach which was literally surprising for me that one has to pay to visit the beach.

After great food and wine we started our voyage from sestra lavente and reached Pisa where Samira had decided to stay at her friend's place however after a short visit to the leaning tower I  decided to hit on the road to find a free baech to spent the night and luck favoured me I found a small village called Calambrone on the west cost 23 km from Pisa. After the crowded bus ride finally found my peace at this remote village in Italy. I was the only one to get out of the bus at calambrone and I knew this is it.

Luckly I didnt have to walk much(2km) to find a free beach - single Fin dog beach and along the way I picked up my dinner (my first Margarita in Italy). Being on the beach I had my first swim, the water was warm although while having dinner I gazed the stars and the moon wondering and getting lost in my thoughts as the night went dark my eyes rolled down.

We decided to Hitchhike from Pisa to Naples and after spending 14 hrs on road hours we finally reached Naples The whole experience was thrilling with samira as she was an experienced hitchhiker. Always remember hitchhiking is not legal in Italy please be at the gas station to find the ride

We stayed at samira's friend's place for 2 nights to have a little peak in to the city. We visited the royal place of Naples and went to the oldest yet the first ever pizzaria in the world called Antica Pizzeria and it tasted as an Italian would say "Ma Ma Mia"

We stayed at a hostel in Torre del Greco for next 2 nights to visit the famous volcano on mount Vesuvius. The whole track to the top was intense and eventful as you meet lively people on the way some of them would make you smoke little of there local stuff. After the fun visit to volcano we went to dinner at a fine joint on the coast of Torre del Greco overlooking the ever amazing sunset of my life across Mediterranean waters saying good buy to each other as it was samira's last day of travels with me.
