Small scorpions that get close to the campfire at night.
Itinerary Overview
The desert. Evocative of great wilderness, of dunes and sand, where nothing grows, where the horizon never stops, easily losing an ignorant man in no time.
And yet, it is in the heart of the desert that we find ourselves, where time stops, suddenly rich in these pure minutes, free of any objective, of any expectation. During these few days we became millionaires of time, just, free.
All road trip lovers and well equipped, we drove peacefully in the middle of these great expanses of sand, dug out dozens of times 4x4, buggy and trucks always taken by laughter, we tried to measure ourselves crossing these giant dunes, we shared mint teas with Berbers met on the way, we fell asleep with our eyes plunged in billions of stars, but most of all, we let our hearts shine in silence.
The hours seemed like seconds, and the seconds like an eternity.
Q & A
What would you have changed?
Avoid visiting the center of the city of Tataouine, without much interest.
Anything go wrong during the trip?
If you make a trip to the desert by vehicle, expect to have to de-sand the cars, trucks and sometimes, a punctured wheel, engines that heat up... A little mechanical knowledge can save you in the middle of the desert!
How was the food?
We didn't go to many restaurants, only one on our last day in Djerba. For us, the best "restaurants" were in the desert with the Berbers! (this famous bread cooked in the sand !)
What tips would you give a friend?
A trip to the desert is a memorable experience! A good preparation and especially a good guide are necessary to be able to benefit at most from this incredible adventure.
Packing tips?
Sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, loose clothes that covers the skin so as not to burn in the sun, warm clothes as well because at night the temperature can reach 0 degrees in the desert! And also a tent, a sleeping bag, closed shoes (for the scorpions!) and especially water!
Transportation Tips?
An excursion in the Sahara desert can be done by 4x4, off-road truck, buggy, motorcycle, but also on foot and on camelback!
Any surprises?
When you go on a road trip, no matter where but especially in the desert, of course there are always surprises! Changes of itinerary, flat tires, atypical encounters...But that's what makes the experience even more beautiful!
Booking details?
We booked everything without an agency, as many of us were already familiar with the Sahara. But if it's your first time, you will find a multitude of competent agencies on the web!
