Itinerary Overview

In December 2022, for 6 weeks, we visited 2 Mexican states, Quintana Roo and Yucatan.  We backpacked through several cities : Playa del Carmen, Akumal, Puerto Morelos, Tulúm, Cozumel, Valladolid, Chichén Itzá, Mérida, Chetumal, Bacalar and Cancún!  Given the number of places, I will only tell you about my 2 favorites : Bacalar and Cozumel!

  • 6 Nights: Bacalar
    The lagoon
  • 3 Nights: Cozumel
    Snorkelling
Bacalar - The lagoon
1

Bacalar The lagoon

The first town I will talk about is Bacalar.  Huge crush on this heavenly place.  We visited the Cenote Azul, a huge expanse of fresh water, super pleasant and soothing!  We also went kayaking on the 7 color lagoon.  We have been near the Canal des pirates, the cenote negro and the Isla de los Pájaros.  I also advise you to go see the sunrise, it's wonderful!  It's amazing how much nature offers us such beautiful landscapes !

Cozumel - Snorkelling

Cozumel Snorkelling

The second is Cozumel.  It is a beautiful little island located near Playa del Carmen.  This place is ideal for snorkelling.  You can discover the seabed, whether the reefs of Palancar and Columbia, magnificent corals or beautiful rays ! Then, I advise you to go to "El Cielo", in other words "The sky", where you can see a sanctuary of starfishes in the middle of crystal clear water!  The sunset is also really beautiful ! In addition to all this, I advise you to go for a bike ride to Playa Mia, a very beautiful beach where you can see rays.  Roads are specially made for bikes and they are flat, so no worries!
