Highs & Lows

Cambodia is an amazing country for trek lovers and adventurers !

The country is really poor with bad infrastructures

Itinerary Overview

To go to Cambodia, we had a night bus from Ho Chi Minh city to Phnom Penh, and then a 4 hours bus to Siem Reap.

An adress. That's all we had to find the bus. We asked the taxi to bring us there, but the place was not corresponding with Google Maps. So we asked the driver to bring us where the point was located... in an area where there was a lot of trafic. We arrived in a street where there were bus stations everywhere. We were in a race against time, with only a name and an adress.

We asked someone every 100 meters in the street, to catch our breath and verify if we were in the good direction. We asked a driver who refused to let us go inside the car "5 minutes"! We arrived eventually, breathless... where the first driver brought us in the first instance. The bus was supposed to leave 20 minutes before, but is still there. For once, we were very happy that it was late!

We started one week in Cambodia trip in Siem Reap. The day before, we rented eletric bicycles to discover Siem Reap. We recommend it to visit the temples of Angkor: it's a big area !

We woke up at 4 to see the sunrise behind Angkor Wat. It was amazing but crowded. The city of legends is amazing, 287 temples reflecting a magnificent power, from now on buried within the Cambodian jungle. Nature has reclaimed its rights and this place inspires and brings a lot of imagination.

We regretted not to have visited this magnificent place with a guide, to know more about the history (we had to read it on Internet).

It's hard to get to the Island of Ko Ta Kiev, but it's worth it. A boat in Sihanoukville, walking 3 km and the hostel. When we went there, it was the only opened hostel. All in wood, this hostel has no electricity, the water comes from the rain and we slept in front of the sea.

Nature, calm and... Rain. We were at the rainy season. The beauty of this island is peaceful.

Q & A

  • What would you have changed?

We would have asked a guide to visit Angkor Wat
  • Anything go wrong during the trip?

Go during the sunny season and not rainy season and take an electric bicycle :)
  • Packing tips?

Warm clothes if you go during the rainy season

Lodging

  • We lodged in Siem Reap Pub Hostel. A very nice and comfortable hostel, good location, nice people.

  • Ten 103 treehouse bay, in harmony with the nature, no electricity, a bar-restaurant. The view was amazing
